“As it is now, the World Junior Taekwondo Championships to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from October 14th to 18th, 2020, where we will have our General Assembly, will take place as scheduled”, says the letter issued the last Tuesday and to which MasTKD.com had exclusive access.
In this way, the uncertainty of hundreds of coaches and practitioners who did not know what would happen due to the growing pandemic of the Coronavirus COVID-19, which compromise the life, came to an end.
In the document, signed by WT President Chungwon Choue; It was also warned that the traditional symposium will be canceled.
“(…) For the sake of financial sustainability, we will not organize the Taekwondo symposium this year. We would like to thank you in advance for your understanding”, Choue said in the document.
The World Junior Championships is one of the few events – if not the only one – that survives without any kind of rescheduling or changes to its initial schedule.
Recently WT Pan America announced that all its events would be canceled to avoid the infection and spread of COVID-19 among the Taekwondo family that attended these tournaments. The victims? The WT President’s Cup G2 2020 and the Pan Am Grand Slam G1 2020, which was to debut on the circuit.
To this must be added the postponements of the Continental Olympic Qualification Tournaments in Europe and Asia, as well as the rescheduling of the World Taekwondo Championship Wuxi 2021 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games themselves.
Dr. Choue thanked the organization for the efforts and commitment to move the tournament forward.
