MasTKD spoke with the president of the African Taekwondo Union and Vice President of the World Taekwondo Federation (WT), General Ahmed Fouly, who said that he was satisfied and pleased with the African athletes´ performance shown in recent competitions; this fact gives the African Continental Union a leading role in the world Taekwondo scene.
“First of all I am pleased to send a message to the world Taekwondo family through MasTaekwondo.com. For me it is very gratifying to be part of the progress that African athletes had in important events around the world. Proof of this, are the results at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where we got five medals, one gold, one silver and three bronzes distributed in four countries, Ivory Coast, Niger, Tunisia and Egypt. This was a historical moment as these medals were the first achieved in history”, he said proudly Fouly
According to General Ahmed Fouly, one of the keys to the constant growth the African Continental Union is the organization of world-class events in the area.
“The fact of organizing large events in Africa generates our athletes to have a constant high-level competitive events, something that allows them to avoid high trip costs to other continents. We are also working together with the MNAs to join forces and carry out programs that support the integral and competitive development of our athletes”, said the head of the WTA.
Egypt, Fouly´s native country, will host the World Beach Taekwondo Championship at the beautiful city of Hurghada from October 11 to 13, 2019.
“We are on the right track and definitely Africa is getting stronger worldwide. We are very proud of that; we will continue to work hard to achieve results that puts Africa as a agent of change for all nations” said Fouly.
