In 2018, Taekwondo Europe hosted together with our indispensable partners wonderful events. From the President’s Cup in Greece with more than 2.200 athletes to the European Master Championships in Spain with only 60 athletes we offer events for all. For the first time ever, Poland hosted the European Championships Under 21 and did an amazing job in doing so! Our loyal partners Turkey, Russia, Bulgaria, Greece and Spain hosted all amazing events which gave our athletes the possibility to fight at the highest European platform.
On the way to Tokyo 2020, the year 2019 is of the utmost importance. It will be a decisive year for those athletes that are collecting ranking points to reach the best possible ranking. Also, for athletes that have other ambitions than the Olympics, Taekwondo Europe will offer them a wide array of events to reach for the sky! Taekwondo Europe has already closed partnerships with amazing hosts for its 2019 events and all events have been allocated. It is our priority to have the 2020 and 2021 events allocated as soon as possible in order for our members to finalize their planning and budgets.
It is our ambition to further increase our activities and provide more services to our members and athletes. We are exploring the possibilities with the World Taekwondo GMS team to publish a quarterly European Ranking list and to introduce for the first time ever a European Taekwondo Award Gala, honoring the best European athletes, coaches and federations. To make our Coach seminars more accessible, Taekwondo Europe will work closely together with its Members and start a pilot in which teachers within the federations are educated to teach at our local Coach seminars.
At the Governance level, Taekwondo Europe will continue to work closely together with World Taekwondo and under the inclusive leadership of dr. Choue focus on further securing the position of Taekwondo at the Olympic program. The cooperation with the other Continental Unions will be a priority in 2019, aiming at providing the best possible circumstances for our athletes to practice our beloved sport. In addition, we will evaluate our decisions and have the courage to make adjustments for the better of our sport.
Finally, I would like to thank our main sponsor Daedo International. Their continuous support is essential for Taekwondo Europe! Also, I would like to thank all our other partners and supporters and hope that 2019 will be a fruitful and successful year! I am looking forward to an ambitious 2019 and hope you will join me in making it even better than the previous years. I wish you and your loved ones a healthy, prosperous and above all, a victorious New Year!
