Just yesterday, WTF Para-Taekwondo had said registration for the event was still open, and reminded people that classification would be available the day before competition got underway.  As of February of this year, only five African competitors were on WTF Para-Taekwondo’s classification list.  There were two competitors Ghana, Sharon Akwei and John Badu.  There were three competitors from Morocco, Faycal Lahssaini, Abdennour Elfedainy and Mohamed Lamniai.  There were no classified competitors from the host country.

The event was scheduled to be one of the first events in the world where ranking points were available, with the only previous available competition for points being the Canada Para-Taekwondo Open held in February.  The points system has been developed with the intention to use it in determining qualification for the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.
