The 1st WTF Gala Awards Dinner will take place on Dec. 5 at the Government Palace in the city of Queretaro, Mexico. The Mexican city is the venue for the 2014 WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final and the 2014 WTF World Cup Taekwondo Team Championships, to be held, respectively, prior to and after the gala dinner.
During the gala dinner, the 2014 WTF Male Player of the Year, the Female Player of the Year, the 2014 WTF Coach of the Year, the 2014 WTF Referee of the Year and the 2014 WTF National Federation of the Year will be voted for. After the Grand Prix finals, which conclude on Dec. 4, the top two players in each of the eight Olympic weight categories will be eligible for the award.
Those eligible to vote for the awardees will be all participating 64 players, 30 international referees and 27 national federations attending the Grand Prix Final, as well as registered journalists covering the event, one vote per country.
The red carpet gala will feature cocktails, dance and taekwondo performances, presentations and speeches from dignitaries, including the WTF president.
“This event grants us in the WTF the opportunity to recognize, thank and honor our sport’s top stars, as well as the officials who work so hard,” said WTF President ChungwonChoue. “We need to recognize these people, and we need to promote them.”
The WTF Gala Awards Dinner, Choue added, will become an annual fixture.
