Korea is shining with Golds

México - 2014/11/02 - Korea continued its supremacy in poomsae taekwondo as it clinched four gold medals on the third day of the 9th WTF World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico on November 1, 2014.

Vietnam grabbed two gold medals, while Germany, Chinese Taipei and the United States took one gold medal each. A total of 16 countries took at least one medal on the third day of competition.

In the male individual under 30 final, Korea’s Kwang-ho Park won 8.61 points to earn his country the gold medal, while host Mexico’s Vaslev Ayala earned 8.54 points for the silver medal. The bronze went to Ecuador’s Henry Sigchos and Germany’s Thomas Sommer.

In the female individual under 50 final, Korea’s Kyeong-ran Oh won 8.08 points for the gold medal, while Australia’s Linda Schragger won 7.88 points for the silver medal. The United States’ Elva Adams and Turkey’s Nesibe Altun had to settle for the bronze medal each.

In the male individual over 65 final, Korea’s Kyu-hyun Lee took home the gold medal with 7.53 points, while France’s Moon Ho Lee garnered 7.52 points for the silver medal. The United States’ Russell Johnson and Australia’s Russell Wood clinched the bronze medal each.

In the female individual junior final, Korea’s Se-bin You earned 8.63 points for the gold medal and the silver went to Chinese Taipei’s Hsiao Chi Huang with 8.48 points. The Philippines’ Rinna Babanto and Canada’s Rose Ramsarran shared the bronze medal.

In the pair over 30 final, Germany garnered 7.94 points for the gold medal, while Chinese Taipei took the silver medal with 7.93 points. The bronze went to Turkey and France.

In the female team junior final, Chinese Taipei took home the gold medal, while Spain won the silver medal. Denmark and the United States shared the bronze medal.

In the male team under 30 final, the United States won 8.32 points for the gold medal, while Turkey garnered 8.26 points for the silver medal. The bronze went to the Philippines and Indonesia.

In the freestyle female individual under 17 final, Vietnam’s Thi Mong Quynh Nguyen scored 6.780 points for the gold medal, while the United States’ Trina Dao earned 6.700 points for the silver medal. The bronze went to Serbia’s Olga Petrovic with 6.660 points and the Philippines’ Rinna Babanto with 6.620 points.

In the freestyle over 17 final, Vietnam’s Thi Thuy Dung Ngo and Thanh Trung Le teamed up to garner 8.080 points for the gold medal, while the Philippines’ Jeordan Dominguez and Jocel Lyn Ninobla earned 8.040 points for the silver medal. The bronze went to Russia’s Nikolai Avdonkin and Nadezhda Pak and the United States’ Long Gguyen and Heather Huynh with their respective scores of 7.620 and 7.340 points.

On the fourth and final day of the competition on Nov. 2, poomsae athletes will compete for top honors in nine divisions.
