The Deaflympics are held every four years and is the longest running multi-sport event excluding the Olympics themselves. The first edition was held in Paris in 1924 and was also the first ever international sporting event for athletes with a disability. Previously, they were called World Games for the Deaf and International Games for the Deaf, and are an IOC-sanctioned event.
The hearing-impaired athletes can not compete in the Paralympics because hearing loss does not affect the performance of athletes in the same way as other disabilities. Even so, it is necessary separate games for athletes with hearing disabilities as these athletes have a special communication needs.
Few athletes deaf or hearing impaired are able to compete on equal terms with athletes with normal hearing in summer and winter Olympics.
Taekwondo is a deaflympic sport since 2009 and the technical director is Mr. Jung-bae Park, Korea. WTF rules were applied, especially in the aspect of athlete´s age. Taekwondo competitions were held on July 27-27, including the following disciplines:
