Pimol had claimed that he hoped Thailand would win its first Olympic gold medal at London 2012.
But, in the end, they had to settle for a bronze in the women’s -49 kilogram category, thanks to Chanatip Sonkham, the third consecutive Olympics that a Thai woman had won a medal in taekwondo.
Pimol, who was elected as a member of the World Taekwondo Federation‘s ruling Council last July, has now set his hopes on a gold medal at Rio 2016.
“We will recruit more players for the national team so that we can have more choices,” he said after his re-election.
“We will give a chance for retired players to coach the team.
“We have to work much harder if we want to be successful in the Olympic Games.”
