A total of 1632 athletes aged 7-18 years old took part in Taekwondo Championships Open in POPKI Sport Center Jakarta, East Jakarta, January 26 to 27. They came from 120 teams from various regions, including a team from Singapore (Hankuk Taekwondo).
Indonesia Minister of Youth and Sports, Roy Suryo, gave the welcome speech to the participants of the Jakarta Taekwondo Festival (JTF) in POPKI Sport Center in Cibubur, Jakarta–Indonesia , 26-27 January 2013. The audience was very enthusiastic about the championship.
In his speech, he thanked the Indonesian Taekwondo Federation which organized the championship at national and international level. He said the JTF event is a promoter of creativity for young children and youngsters and that these types of events help to improve their performance in sports, especially in Taekwondo.
Mr. Suryo continued: “Therefore, I strongly support the programs organized by the Indonesia Taekwondo Association. This championship was attended by so many participants from different regions that could bring fame to our nation. Taekwondo is also closely related to the physical and intellectual development of our athletes, “said the minister.
Mr. Suryo said we has grateful for the organization of this event and that he would hope that this type of events continue to take place in Indonesia in order to promote the country and at the same time improve the performance of the Indonesian athletes. He also informed that during 2013, the Asian Junior Taekwondo Champonships, Islamic Solidarity Games and World Poomsae Championships, will be held in Indonesia.
The success of this event can not be separated from the role of Chairman of Indonesia Taekwondo Assosciation, Marciano Norman, who received appreciation from Minister of Youth and Sport Roy Suryo.
