Hanoi, May 14 (Prensa Latina) After totaling one gold, one silver and three bronze medals, the Vietnamese national team ranked 4th in the 2012 Asian Taekwondo Championships, which was headed by South Korea and Iran and was held in Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen Truong Cuong was the only Vietnamese fighter who reached the title by a narrow victory (5-4) in overtime against Uzbek Baykuziyey Jasur, in the closure of the seven-day competition this weekend.

The regional event was attended by 300 taekwondokas from 34 nations, in the youth and champion categories, and the corresponding female branches.

Like a similar event of European champions, which was held simultaneously in Manchester, in the United Kingdom, the Asian competition provided qualifying slots for the upcoming 2012 Olympics.

In Ho Chi Minh City, South Korean Dai Son Lee was reelected as head of the Asian Taekwondo Union.
