The Asian Qualification Tournament was originally scheduled for Nov. 4-5, 2011 at the Mall Convention Center in downtown Bangkok, but was postponed because of the worst flooding in 50 years in Thailand.
A total of 24 athletes, the top three athletes in each of the four male and four female Olympic weight categories, will qualify their National Olympic Committees a place each for the 2012 London Olympic Games through the Asian Qualification Tournament.

Thirty one countries have submitted their entry forms for 101 athletes to the WTF. Each country may enter a maximum two male and two female athletes, with one athlete per weight category. A total of 20 athletes are to compete in the men’s -67kg weight category, while seven athletes will fight for the Olympic tickets each in the men’s +80kg and the women’s +67kg divisions.
For fairer judging and refereeing, the tournament will use an instant video replay system and the Daedo protector and scoring system (PSS). A total of 30 international referees, including four review juries, will officiate at the two-day tournament.
Twenty five percent of the registered athletes per weight category will be seeded based on the WTF World Ranking as of Nov. 1, 2011. In the event that the registered athlete from the host country of the Asian qualifier, Thailand, has not been included in the 25 percent, he or she will be seeded at the last place of the seeded 25 percent.
