U.S. Poomsae Team Readies for World Championships

The 2010 U.S. National Poomsae Team is ready to depart to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, for the 5th WTF World Poomsae Championships. The three-day event will take place Oct. 8-11, with projected participation of over 500 competitors from 61 countries.


The U.S. Poomsae Team will be lead by USA Taekwondo CEO David Askinas and Head Coach/Program Director Master Jimmy Kim. The Team is comprised of the following athletes:

Juniors – Shannon Chang & Alexander Tran

1st Seniors – Natalie Baker & Alexander Twu

2nd Seniors –Akiko Reyes & Luis Reyes

1st Masters – Susie Gulde & Garth Cooley

2nd Masters – Barbara Brand & Karl Yee

1st Female Team – Ophelia Ngai, Olivia Ngai and Odona Ngai

2nd Female Team – Barbara Brand, Tara Zielenski and Anacleta Thorne

2nd Male Team – Garth Cooley, David Turgeon and Ron Southwick

1st Pairs – Ophelia Ngai & Alexander Twu

2nd Pairs – Kristi George & Garth Cooley

The team will be supported by coaches Noreen Thackrey, Claire Kim and Alex Wang, and by team managers Aline Salzberg and Leslie Machado.

In addition, two U.S. international referees will be taking part in the world championships. Master Raymond Hsu was appointed by the WTF to serve as one of the IRs working the event, and Master Victoria Serbin was appointed by the WTF to serve as a member of the Competition Supervisory Board.
